Hey, I’m Ed, I’ve been directing, writing and VFX supervising for the past 12 years, I thought I should tell you why I founded recdek.
Discovery and curation is a problem for the industry.
On set and throughout the business of producing film and tv, crews, actors, directors, producers, etc, all talk about what we’re loving (and not lovingðŸ¤) all the time, and yet, the curation and the ability to simply find that recommendation again is unnecessary complicated.
recdek exists so I could receive recommendations from the people I wanted to hear from, get back to that person with my thanks and thoughts, and send on recommendations to my friends.

The best film and TV can inspire, educate, make us cry. Cinema can change perspectives and give us understanding. Or make us laugh exactly when when we need it.
Aimlessly scrolling streamers searching for shows is a waste of your one and only life, and audiences waste about 8 days a year each simply scrolling. recdek exists so you can stay up to date with what your friends are loving, we’re social beings, let’s talk to each other and exchange opinions! There’s much joy to be found in making an epic recommendation, as well as in the watching!
Stay up to date with film and tv culture.
There’s an enormous amount of content produced each year (at least some 150,000 hours), streaming algorithms are designed to keep you watching their shows. Yet, the latest and greatest work by voices old and new, can be found everywhere. recdek will keep you up to date with the latest reviews and all the film festival award winners, no matter which platform they end up on.
What about the future?
Our community is growing. We’re providing a simple way to discover what to watch. We’re all about the mindful viewing of film and tv, and we’re facilitating the conversation around it! Our journey began with the industry itself, recdek is a tool for the tastemakers. Sure we have an app, but there’s a growing movement behind the opinions of real people, in real rooms, talking about real films! We’re already hosting events for our community at SXSW, at Cannes Film Festival, at London Film Festival, at Tribeca Film Festival and AFM.
We’re extremely excited by recdek’s future, and our implications for both audiences, and filmmakers alike.
